Okay. Stick with me here, because it could seem right now that I’m drawing a long bow. But I think that by the end, you'll have a new appreciation of Alfred, and see just how much value a simple planner can add to your life.
If you don't know who Alfred is, I recommend some light reading here.
I'm in the know because my older brother was obsessed with Batman. Everything I know, I learned through osmosis - and countless times having to play the penguin to his Batman. Thanks James.
Following is a list of five ways I believe that your planner is your most trusted sidekick.
It drives you.
Alfred may literally drive Batman, but your planner plays more of a metaphorical role. It’s there to help you stay on the road, focused on working towards your goals and keeping you motivated.
It provides you with the tools and support you need to get the job done.
Alfred is king of supporting Batman, whether it is distracting nosy parkers from discovering Batman’s true identity (thereby keeping Batman from losing focus) or reminding Bruce Wayne of his social commitments and obligations. Your planner will have your back, making sure you have the space to get things done.
It never asks for any credit for the star you become.
Your planner will always be your silent cheerleader, and will never ask to be the hero in your story, just like Alfred. All your planer wants is for you to be the best version of yourself.
It reminds you of where you've been and how far you've come.
Alfred was there when Bruce Wayne was at his lowest, following the death of his parents and helped Bruce grow from this tragedy to become the caped crusader Gotham needed. Bring out your planner whenever you’d like to reflect on the week/month/ year that was and you’ll see you’ve also been evolving, making the changes that you need to to become the superhero you were born to be.
It holds you to account, and makes sure you stay true to your vision.
Whenever Batman doubts whether he is on the right path, or considers compromising his principles to defeat the enemy, Alfred is there, reminding Batman that compromising his principles may cost more that he thinks. Your planner will be there, reminding you every step of the way of your vision. Letting you be accountable to yourself, and stay true to what your journey is.
You probably didn't expect to be nodding your head on this one, but it got me too.
Tell me who else you think your planner could be?
